Home Energy Scotland honoured with Valued Partner award

Wing Hong Chinese Elderly Centre (Wing Hong) recently celebrated their 30th anniversary and honoured Home Energy Scotland with their ‘Valued Partner’ award.

26 Nov 2019

Wing Hong Chinese Elderly Centre (Wing Hong) recently celebrated their 30th anniversary and honoured Home Energy Scotland with their ‘Valued Partner’ award.

Wing Hong works with the elderly Chinese community in Glasgow, helping enhance quality of life and providing access to:

  • Social care
  • Health care
  • Welfare services
  • Housing services

Wing Hong invited Home Energy Scotland to give a presentation (accompanied by an interpreter) at their centre’s daily lunch club, to explain what’s available through our free impartial advice service and how we can help.

We also organised an informal drop in surgery and individual home visit appointments with a Home Energy Scotland Energycarer, all of which included an interpreter from Wing Hong.

Many of the centre’s regular service users got help with energy billing and using heating systems correctly. One householder even qualified for a new boiler and full central heating system through Warmer Homes Scotland!

Amy Li-Man, Wing Hong Assistant Manager explained: “Before we began working with Home Energy Scotland we had limited knowledge of government funding and didn’t know where to turn to. Many of our service users were unable to access support or make a claim to the schemes they were entitled to, due to communication barriers and lack of knowledge.”

At Wing Hong’s 30th anniversary celebration event, Home Energy Scotland was honoured with their Valued Partner award.

Commenting on reasons for the award, Amy Li-Man said: “Working alongside the Home Energy Scotland team has improved the quality of service we provide at Wing Hong as it has helped widen our staff skills and knowledge, giving them confidence to offer more support to service users and make future referrals to Home Energy Scotland.”

Home Energy Scotland Partnership Officer Lillian Delaney said: “We’re big supporters of Wing Hong and it was lovely to have the opportunity to celebrate their amazing milestone together. We were honoured to receive the award; it demonstrates how important and effective partnership working can be to achieve the best outcome for our customers, particularly when supporting ethnic minority groups.”
