Home Energy Scotland Loan - Overview

Everything you need to know about the Scottish Government funded interest-free loan that helps make your home warmer and reduces the costs of your fuel bills

There are certain things you need to do to claim the loan, both when applying and carrying out the work.

The amount of funding you can claim depends on what improvements you want to make. We’ve answered some of the more common questions below, and there are also links to important information that you should read before applying. You’ll find more information on our application form but, if you have any questions at all, just give us a call on 0808 808 2282.

Who can apply?

Are you a homeowner? Great news - if you live in the property you own then you can apply. Call us free on 0808 808 2282 today.

Building your own Grand Design? You can use the loan for home renewables systems or energy storage systems; other measures aren't available if it's a self build.

Are you a landlord? You can still apply as long as:

  • you own the property in a personal capacity,
  • the property is not owned by a business nor listed as a business asset, and
  • you're only applying for up to three properties which are currently occupied within 30 days of receiving the loan.

Business or a property developer? Sorry - you can’t apply. But we do offer a range of other funding opportunities like the Scottish Government's RES SME loan scheme – see Grants and Loans for more information.
