Johnson Matthey DPFiS Fuel Additive Regeneration
This passive system uses a fuel additive that is mixed with the Diesel fuel and catalyses the combustion of soot held in the filter. Higher exhaust temperatures are needed for this system to operate successfully.
This passive system is for use with Diesel engines in the range of 1kW to 30 kW operating with exhaust gas temperature greater than 380°C for more than 25% of the time and is not sensitive to fuel with higher sulphur contents. The regeneration of the filter is achieved by using an additive to the Diesel fuel. The additive is deposited onto the filter along with the soot and catalyses its combustion. These additives can be mixed with the Diesel fuel at different ratios. The dosing of the additive is done either manually, directly into the fuel tank, or by using an automatic dosing unit.
