Applicants must be Scottish based and they must also be legally constituted, not-for-profit community groups.
What can the fund be used for?
The type of project that will be considered will include:
- projects to reduce carbon dioxide emissions (but not the installation of energy generation equipment that could be funded through other government grants)
- support for community organisations developing carbon emissions reduction action plans
- feasibility studies or community engagement for carbon dioxide emissions reducing projects
- community capacity building (awareness raising around carbon emissions reduction, training and skills development)
- the costs of a community establishing a partnership, setting up a company or project management costs related to the community carbon emissions reduction project or action plan.
Carbon dioxide emissions reduction must be at the heart of every proposal, but projects can involve a range of actions, from helping people to use less energy, or walk and cycle more, to local sustainable food.
An application can be made on-line at any point, or an expression of interest form can be downloaded from the Climate Challenge Fund website.
