Wind turbines boom time predicted
Britain could be obliged to build thousands more wind turbines in the countryside under targets for renewable energy to be set out by the EU commission on Wednesday.
The new EU climate change targets will compel the UK to generate 40 per cent of its electricity from green sources within 12 years.
EU plans could include a binding target of 10 per cent of all fuel to come from biofuels.
The government already aims to triple the electricity supplied from renewable sources to around 15 per cent by 2015.
According to expert analysis, wind turbines on the land will have to rise fourfold and thousands more will be needed at sea if the UK is to meet the EU edict.
