London school gets solar Christmas present

A north London school has received a new installation of solar panels thanks to a renewable energy initiative.

Solar4schools is a new scheme launched earlier this year by green energy company Solarcentury and funded jointly by the government and Barclaycard.

Finchley Catholic High School has become one of five schools across the UK to be awarded a solar energy system worth £20,000 under the scheme, after entering a prize draw, the Hendon and Finchley Times reports.

Jeremy Leggett, chief executive at Solarcentury, commented: "Access to this silent, clean, sustainable energy is easy.

"Meanwhile, it is a crucial vehicle for educating young people on the benefits of solar photovoltaics generated electricity."

The Plough Inn, a public house in Rotherham, recently applied for planning permission to add roof solar panels as part of a major extension of its premises, South Yorkshire newspaper the Star has reported.
