Geothermal firm wins green award

Geothermal firm EarthEnergy has received the Cornwall Sustainability award for its work in installing renewable energy heating systems in social housing.

Cornwall County Council recognised that the work was helping tenants with affordable central heating in areas with no mains gas.

Brian Kennelly, managing director of EarthEnergy, said that he was delighted to win the award, as ground source heat pumps are increasingly being see as the future of heating.

"They provide central heating and hot water with bills which people really can afford and, at the same time, reduce both our carbon footprint and our reliance on fossil fuels," he said.

Powergen, heat pump manufacturer Calorex and Penwith Housing Association have worked with EarthEnergy in developing a geothermal heating and hot water solution for the UK social housing sector.
