Home improvements suggested by Centrica
A number of ways in which consumers can improve the energy efficiency of their homes has been suggested by a Centrica representative.
When asked to assess the condition of a three-bedroom house in London, Dave Dixey claimed that although it may have been above average in its environmental credentials, some enhancements could be made to reduce costs, the Mail on Sunday reports.
Major renovations were suggested, including installing double glazing, adding individual thermostats to radiators in order to control temperatures and switching to a condensing boiler - which could save some £73 per year.
Simpler measures, such as replacing light bulbs with their energy saving equivalents and unplugging appliances at night, could all contribute to reducing the carbon output of homeowner Jenny Little's property.
"If a few small changes were made, it would cut the CO2 emissions quite dramatically and the estimates of the cost savings that could be made were very impressive," she said.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, boilers account for around 60 per cent of domestic carbon emissions.
