Boiler helps save family money

An increasing number of householders in Scotland are adopting technology designed to reduce their expenditure on energy, it has been revealed.

According to the Herald, people in the country are beginning to use alternative boiler systems to cut back on their fuel consumption.

For example, Steve Macken and his family replaced their traditional boiler system with ground source heat pumps, which are reportedly being used in around 3,000 homes north of the border.

About the system, he said: "I'd definitely recommend it. We're a family of four with pretty hefty water usage and even when we've got four friends staying it still copes absolutely no problem. It keeps water at a very high temperature."

Mr Macken added that, whereas he used to shell out around £2,000 each year for heat and energy, this figure has fallen to £300.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, traditional boilers account for around 60 per cent of the carbon dioxide emissions of gas heated dwellings.
