Hot water tank insulating jacket 'can cut costs'
Purchasing an insulating jacket for your hot water tank can help homeowners save money, experts have suggested.
The Energy Savings Trust says that the jackets are cheap to buy and "pay for themselves" within a matter of months.
Jon McGowan, energy doctor at the trust, said: "If every UK household fitted a jacket on their tank tomorrow, we'd save around £130 million of energy every year."
He added that there are plenty of other ways in which people can help make their homes more energy efficient including closing curtains at night to keep the heat in.
Swapping ordinary light bulbs for energy efficient ones was another way that homeowners can keep their utility bills down.
National Insulation Association home claims that insulation is the single most effective method of saving money on domestic energy bills.
It says that installing proper insulation can typically cut around £275 off the annual bill.
