Robinsons announces lighter bottles

02 August 2008

Robinsons, the soft drink produced by Britvic, is to introduce a lighter weight bottle, in an effort to reduce the amount of plastic the company uses.

The change will save an estimated 330 tonnes of plastic annually and follows a pack redesign in 2007, which allowed Britvic to save 50 tonnes of cardboard a year by reducing the amount of the material used in retail displays by five per cent.

One-litre PET bottles will now weigh 36 grams, two grams lighter than before, as the company maintains its commitment to environmental issues.

Britvic chief executive Paul Moody commented: "Robinsons has come a long way in reducing its impact on the environment in the past two years but as always we are focused on further packaging reductions, as well as energy and water usage reductions across all Britvic brands and at all our manufacturing sites."

Allowing Robinsons to sponsor last year's Sports Personality of the Year programme recently got the BBC into trouble, as commercials are banned on the network and a misleading impression was created.
