Local Carbon Budget pilots announced
The pilots will be Nottingham, Bristol, Northumberland, Manchester, Haringey, Oxford, Plymouth, Leeds City region and Bournemouth Poole and Dorset MAA.
The local carbon frameworks will start with emissions from council own estates (NI 185) but then move on to area emissions (NI 186). As part of this process there will be a number of steps:
- each council will set out medium and long term targets for cutting carbon
-
each council will develop a strategy for how carbon reductions can be achieved which will be be evidence based and articulate how community buy-in and involvement will be secured
-
each council would develop a delivery plan involving all its partners, including those outside the formal strategic partnership.
- This will all be put together in a prospectus which will be negotiated with government in a similar process as LAAs.
