Energy Efficiency
Ms. Ferguson; An Energy Saving Winner
Ms Ferguson from South Belfast is the proud winner of a luxury hamper worth over £150 supplied by the Energy Saving Trust advice centre. Sharon made her commitment to save energy during Energy Saving Week at Queens University Belfast; where our expert advisors were on hand offering free comprehensive advice and support on energy efficiency, renewable energy technology and low carbon transport.
As a thank you from the Energy Saving Trust advice centre for committing to save energy, Ms Ferguson was entered into a free prize draw to win the luxury hamper and lady luck was on her side this time round. As well as making her commitment to save energy, she received free, impartial advice on how she could reduce her household energy bills by £250 per year.
Siobhan Purnell, Marketing Manager of the Energy Saving Trust advice centre said:
"We are delighted to be able to supply Ms Ferguson with her luxury hamper, which includes energy saving products such as low energy light bulbs, a wind-up digital radio, as well as some other luxury treats. We hope that the energy efficiency advice and the hamper goodies that Ms Ferguson has received will help and encourage her to save energy in the home. On behalf of the Energy Saving Trust advice centre, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Queens University who made this competition possible. We were delighted to work with Queens and privileged that they supported us during Energy Saving Week."
Energy Saving Week, which is organized by the Energy Saving Trust, is designed to raise awareness of the damaging effects that wasting energy has on our climate and encourage people to implement energy saving measures at home and at work to save energy money and the environment. The week focused on how we, as individuals, can make a positive difference to reducing our impact on the environment.
Almost half of our carbon dioxide (CO2) actually comes from the energy we use every day, at home, at work and when we travel, which means that at community level we can make big changes happen.
Tony Schmidt, Energy Manger, Queens University said "We supported the Energy Saving Trust's 11th Energy Saving Week, to urge staff and students from across Northern Ireland to join the fight against climate change and help make our community one of the greenest in the UK and to spread the word about saving energy."
Speaking about the competition Ms Ferguson said
"I am delighted to have won the Energy Saving Trust advice centre hamper and am looking forward to using it. I made my commitment to save energy as I wanted to be more energy efficient in my own home and help reduce by energy bills; I didn't expect to win a hamper as well!
The energy advisors gave me a range of energy saving tips to help me save energy and help fight climate change - all of them were simple, inexpensive and easy and more importantly they helped me save money on my household energy bills.
For example by turning my thermostat down by 1°C has saved me around £40 per year on my heating bill."
