Birmingham eco home receives praise
A green property in Bournville, Birmingham, has been given high praise at a prestigious environmental awards ceremony.
The house, which was refurbished by the Bournville Village Trust (BVT), was commended at this year's Sustainability Awards.
Contained within the house are more than 50 green features including sun pipes, solar panels and cavity-wall insulation.
Bob Stanton, BVT spokesman, told the Birmingham Mail: "The objectives of refurbishing the house were to reduce the energy requirement of the home by improving its thermal performance, to reduce the dependency of the home on non-sustainable energy sources and to minimise the environmental impact of the home as it is upgraded."
He added that the home was monitored for a year and that the green measures will be used in the future by the trust for housing repairs.
It is not only the house which is eco-friendly but also those that live inside it who recycle and grow their own vegetables to eat.
Bournville is probably most famous for being home to the Cadbury's chocolate factory.
