At Home with Energy
‘At home with energy: A selection of insights into domestic energy use across the UK’ assesses consumer perspectives, motivations and behaviours across three key areas: small energy using behaviours in the home, uptake of basic energy saving measures, and uptake of high-cost energy efficiency and microgeneration technologies.
Through our advice services we have contact with over 3 million consumers per year. We also undertake research and evaluation activities to inform the development of our services. The report brings together insights from these sources to provide an overview of where consumers are currently, in terms of their attitudes, awareness and propensity to adopt energy saving behaviours, and how future progress can be made.
The report is not intended as a comprehensive assessment of the role of consumer behaviour in tackling climate change. It does not, for instance, consider consumer take up of electronic goods, or personal travel choices, which are important aspects of our work but beyond the scope of this report. Rather, it is intended as a snapshot of insights with references to where more detailed information can be found.
We hope the report will help support the wide variety of stakeholders working to cut energy consumption and carbon emissions from the domestic sectors, including central and local government, businesses and civil society organisations.
Should you have any queries, or which to discuss any of the issues covered by the report, please contact ben.castle@est.org.uk.
