Green Barometer 6 - Energy Performance Certificates: Home Truths
Our latest Green Barometer looks awareness of Energy Performance Certificates and highlights the benefits to homeowners, tenants and landlords. With energy prices so high it is more important than ever to have an efficient home. Energy use in UK homes accounts for 27% of the UK's emissions of carbon dioxide, one of the greenhouse gases that are contributing to global warming and climate change. Simple home improvements can make big savings both for the environment financially. For example insulating your loft could save you around £155 per year on your energy bills, and cavity wall insulation can save around £120 a year.
Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) rate the energy efficiency of a property, giving it a rating from A-G, much like our energy saving recommended scheme for products. EPC's include a report which recommends improvements to save money and carbon. There are many benefits for landlords, tenants and homeowners to make improvements, as an energy-efficient home will not only command higher rental value and boost chances of a property being rented, but can also increase the value by an average of £3350 when it comes to being sold.
