Climate Change Academies
October 2009
During October we are working closely with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to support The Learning Revolution Festival: a celebration of everything that’s great about learning for pleasure.
‘Climate Change Academies’
During the last two weeks of October and in conjunction with the Festival of Learning and Energy Saving Week 2009, we will be holding a series of ‘Climate Change Academies’ across the UK to help inform and educate areas of the population with little or no knowledge of climate change or what can be done in their own homes to save the planet (and their pockets!).
The aim of the ‘Climate Change Academies’ is to help encourage families to learn more about living low carbon lives as well as give them handy advice on how to save energy in their own home. There will be nine free ‘Climate Change Academies’ across England. Each ‘academy’ will run as a one day workshop on a ‘first come, first served’ basis with three sections in each: The basics of ‘what is climate change…and why save energy?’ ‘What can I do today?’ ‘What can I do next?’ ie solar power, forming a green community etc
Dates/time
Dates are subject to change so call first before booking your place on the course. Venues are being booked now and will be confirmed when booking. Each academy will run from 10am until 3.30pm with lunch provided.

More information on the Learning Revolution Festival
Informal adult learning covers a broad spectrum of activities – from joining a local sports team to researching something of interest online. It also has a wealth of advantages, as it is proven to benefit mental and physical wellbeing and bring communities closer together. The whole aim of The Learning Revolution Festival is to ensure that everybody has access to these wonderful experiences, especially people from disadvantaged backgrounds and those who aren’t currently getting involved in any form of learning. We would also be delighted to have your support. You can do this by providing your own local event during October, by giving your staff the opportunity to try something new on a particular day, or simply by telling more people about our events. The Learning Revolution Festival is the start of a journey to widen awareness, participation and support of informal adult learning. Be part of it. Visit www.direct.gov.uk/learningrevolution or call 0800 100 900 to find out more.
