Renewables and distributed energy

Power in Numbers

We have published Power in Numbers which shows the benefits and potential of distributed energy generation at the community scale. What are the benefits of people getting together to produce their own energy? Which technology is most carbon and cost effective in a given community?

The study found that even today, it is economical for certain community types and sizes to install distributed generation. But this potential is currently not exploited because of various barriers, mainly to do with acting as a community and planning and connections issues. It also assess the impact of supporting policies on the potential for community distributed generation.

Our Microgeneration work

Overall, we have increased our involvement in microgeneration as part of a more integrated whole house approach to energy and carbon saving.

We sit in the microgeneration sub-group of the Renewable Advisory Board, the EnR Renewables working group, the Micropower Council Financial Policy Strategy group and the Micropower Council Targets and Consumer Information group.

We have published, Generating the future, which looks at what policy interventions are required to achieve widespread penetration of microgeneration in the UK.
