A consortium that has formed to bid for offshore wind farm licences has said that the new projects will be more challenging than previous developments.
E.on, which has joined forces with DONG Energy and Fred Olsen Renewables, said that it joined the consortium with companies with experience in difficult conditions to bid for Round Three licenses.
Regional director for renewables of E.on Dave Rogers said: "We as a consortium have brought together companies with the financial ability and the experience of working on major on- and offshore wind projects as well as working in difficult offshore conditions in the oil and gas industry, to make this a success."
E.on is already working with DONG energy in the development of the London Array.
The one gigawatt (GW) wind farm project in the Thames Estuary could have up to 271 wind turbines.
A recent report for the Department for Energy and Climate Change claimed that wind power from offshore sources could have the capacity to generate 33GW.
