Fuel efficient driving training

Fuel efficient driving or ecodriving is about adopting driving techniques that maximise modern engines’ efficiency. Using less fuel when driving also means that carbon emissions and air pollutants from vehicles are reduced.

Energy Saving Trust's fuel efficient ecodriving training is provided by training companies in England and is based on extensive research into the technical and behavioural issues associated with reducing fuel consumption.

Ecodriving training

Fuel efficient driver training can provide the following benefits:

  • reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions
  • increased MPG by up to 15 per cent
  • reduced risk of vehicle accidents
  • lower risk of vehicle wear and tear
  • opportunities to demonstrate your commitment to the environment.

Ecodriving contributes to safety due to the strong focus on greater anticipation. It is worth emphasising that it is not about sacrificing performance and enjoyment for the sake of doing the right thing; it is about a more professional approach and becoming a better driver. Read more about the benefits of eco-driving training from our case study.

How do I find the right training for my organisation?

Under our ecodriving scheme, subsidised training is available for organisations directly from the approved training companies and independent trainers. All training is delivered by DVSA-registered fleet trainers who have attended one of our ecodriving 'train-the-trainer' courses. The scheme covers cars and vans and operates across England. If you're based in Scotland, you can see details of our related programme.

There is a wide variety of training available meaning you can choose a format that suits your needs. Courses vary in terms of their duration, their focus (some purely focus on ecodriving whilst others incorporate other aspects of safety), and the type of training supplier (large national companies, smaller regional companies or independent trainers).
