Smarter Driving

About smarter driving

As I'm sure you know it's not just what you drive that matters; it's how you drive as well. Smarter driver training from the Energy Saving Trust helps teach your employees practical techniques, which can be undertaken with any of your drivers, whether or not they drive on company business.

This practical training session, run from your own premises by an Approved Driving Instructor accredited by the Energy Saving Trust, is fun, informative - and could save your organisation a considerable amount of fuel and money. It takes less than an hour per driver too.

What are the benefits?

Crucially, the course is subsidised by the Department for Transport. Together, we've reduced the cost of lessons to just £15 + VAT per driver* making it some of the best value for money training in the country! Smarter driving can improve your fuel consumption by around 15 percent, helping you save money and carbon. As smarter drivers tend to be safer drivers too, this course really can make a positive difference all round.

*Reduced from £25 in November 2009, thanks to extra funding from DfT.

Who's taken smarter driving lessons?

To date we've trained more than 5000 drivers from 100 organisations. Public sector organisations to have completed the training include: Hampshire NHS Trust, Oxford City Council, Liverpool City Council and Knowsley Housing Trust. BAE Systems, EDF Energy, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble, BMW and Honda are just some of the leading private companies to have taken smarter driving under their wing.

Organisations accross the country have found that the fuel savings they have made from smarter driving courses make it more than financially worthwhile. It enhances an organisation's investment in its people, and its CSR reputation too. So why not join them?
