Getting started with the Nottingham Declaration

Climate change poses a genuine threat to our planet. The scale of the challenge means that all sectors of the community have to be involved if we are to meet targets for reducing emissions and adapting to climate change. Local Authorities in particular have a crucial role to play in responding to this challenge.

Councils can show their commitment to this important issue by signing the Nottingham Declaration on climate change. By signing, you pledge actively to tackle climate change in your area and work with others to reduce emissions country-wide. So far, nearly 300 English local authorities have signed the Nottingham Declaration.

Scotland and Wales have developed their own commitments to tackling climate change: the Welsh Commitment to Address Climate Change and Scotland's Climate Change Declaration. All local authorities in both these devolved administrations have signed their respective declarations.
