Energy Saving Trust Home Truths - the Sime family

Overview

The Energy Saving Trust's Undercover Reporter Josh Sime observed his family and monitored their wasteful behaviour.

Josh took part in a unique piece of research to highlighted his family's wasteful habits in the home. At the start and end of the week long task the Sime family was visited by an Energy Saving Trust Energy Doctor who carried out a Home Energy and discovered what local grants were available to help them make energy efficient changes to their home. Check for local grants and offers.

“Yes, everyone needs to switch off after themselves and stop wasting energy” Josh Sime – Undercover Reporter

Wasteful Habits

The Sime's were not fully aware that they could apply for grants to incorporate energy efficient changes in the home and Mr and Mrs Sime were "amazed how often Josh caught us out leaving the lights on and appliances on standby".

In addition they needed to replace their light bulbs with energy efficient ones, the family’s loft and walls were not insulted which meant they were surprised to hear that vast amounts of energy was escaping in this way

The Solutions

The Sime's have committed to getting insulation in the loft to start Mr Sime said “we will be speaking to the contractor about the possibility of insulating the walls. We will continue to replace our light bulbs with low energy alternatives.

Being an environmentally savvy family the Simes were aware of the findings the Home Energy Check produced, however they now feel that this has given them the push to implement the changes.

They are now ready to take the next steps and become even more energy efficient and save money.

“Old habits die hard so maybe yes maybe no but I will help them change their ways for the better”
Josh Sime – Undercover Reporter
