Energy Saving Trust Home Truths - the Manning family

Overview

The Energy Saving Trust's Undercover Reporter Lewis Manning observed his family and monitored their wasteful behaviour.

Lewis took part in a unique piece of research to highlight his family’s wasteful habits in the home. At the start and end of the week long task each family was visited by an Energy Saving Trust
Energy Doctor who carried out a Home Energy Check.

“The task gave me insight into the world of energy and the rewards it offers” Lewis Manning – Undercover Reporter

Wasteful Habits

The Mannings were surprised to learn the levels of energy that is wasted through their walls. In addition they found that their chimney was to blame for their warm air disappearing from their living room.

The Solutions

The Manning's have committed to getting a chimney balloon to stop the warm air disappearing from our living room. And the family have been pro active and have installed energy saving light bulbs, they also recycle and compost and have installed a water saver in one shower.

Upon completing the Home Energy Check the Energy Saving Trust Energy Doctor highlighted that £341 could be saved if the appropriate energy saving techniques were incorporated into their habits and house. Being a family that are aware of their environmental responsibilities the Manning's were in the know about the various grants that are available to them.

They are now ready to take the next steps and become even more energy efficient and save money.

“This task has shown me and my family that little things like turning off the TV and lights can make a big difference”.
Lewis Manning – Undercover Reporter
