The Energy Saving Trust's Undercover Reporter Jamiee Barry observed her family and monitored their wasteful behaviour.
Jamiee took part in a unique piece of research to highlight her family’s wasteful habits in the home. At the start and end of the week long task her family was visited by an Energy Saving Trust
Energy Doctor who carried out a Home Energy Check.
"I have learnt that we can do a lot more in our house to save energy" Jamiee Barry – Undercover Reporter
Having completed a Home Energy Check the Barry's were surprised at how much money they could save and how many changes could make to their home more energy efficient.
The Barry's are also now aware of their wasteful behaviours through the research Jaimee conducted. The family tend to leave appliances on stand by and the family also realised that cavity wall insulation was an option they should explore to stop energy escaping.
The Barry's are exploring the options available to them to have cavity wall insulations installed; they are also keen to have shutters for their fire places, take shorter shower and they have committed to switching appliances off rather than leaving them on stand by. Jamiee said:
"The habits my family will try and change are: Turing off lights when not needed. Turing off appliances when not in use. Having quicker showers. Making sure we recycle waste".
They are now ready to take the next steps and become even more energy efficient and save money.
"I enjoyed doing the task because I enjoyed using the video camera and being a secret spy."
