Wind turbines could be turned into artworks following the appointment of an artist in residence by a research and development organisation.
The New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaRec) has appointed Alec Finlay to make wind turbines into tourist attractions or make them more attractive to residents.
Mr Finlay told The Journal: "It's not my place to tell people what they should think about turbines but they should have the opportunity to at least see them in this light. I don't think all turbines should be turned into art forms but this does present the opportunity to actually use some of these to contribute to the tourism economy."
NaREC, which offers wind turbine testing, helped engineer a vertical-axis, v-shaped wind turbine which could generate up to nine megawatts of electricity
Windpower, the firm behind the Aerogenerator, claims that its design not only has more capacity but is also more stable and easier to maintain than traditional horizontal-axis devices.
