A wind turbine proposal in the car park of a supermarket in Coventry has received planning approval.
Retail giant Tesco has received approval to install the turbine on the site of its Clifford Bridge Road store.
The Coventry City Council's planning committee has recommended the council approves the application to erect the ten-metre wind turbine, which will occupy four car park spaces.
When in operation, the turbine is expected to generate enough power to operate the store's checkout.
John McNicholas, Labour councillor for Lower Stoke, told the Coventry Telegraph: "This is a very innovative idea. If we have more of these across the city they could have an impact."
Meanwhile, Tesco has submitted pre-planning to install turbines at two of its stores in Worcester and applied to put up another one in Daventry.
Instead of the traditional rotor blades, which spin on a horizontal axis, the supermarket has plans to put up turbines that spin on a vertical axis.
