Wind farm plans shown to public

15 November 2008

A wind farm project has invited locals to assess the proposal.

E.On is to hold two public exhibitions in West Ancroft to showcase the plans for an eight-turbine wind farm.

If built it will have the capacity to generate about 18 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 10,200 homes.

It would also save 20,793 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from being released.

As such it would contribute to the government's target to reduce carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 and generate 15 per cent of all electricity from renewable sources.

Charles Rattan of E.On said: "We want to ensure that the local community is kept up-to-date with our plans, which is why we are holding these events. We'll also be working to make sure that local stakeholders are kept informed at all stages."

In many areas, such as Daventry District Council, where plans for a wind farm have been delayed, local opposition is a major obstacle to the success of projects.
