An ethanol plant capable of producing 20 million gallons of biofuels a year is to be built in the US state of Kentucky, according to WYMT news.
The environmentally-sound facility is to be constructed next to a landfill in Pike County, eastern Kentucky, and will be used to convert solid waste into ethanol fuel.
The company building the $200 million plant, Agresti Biofuels, says that the facility will not only produce substantial amounts of biofuels, but will also solve the county's problem with waste disposal.
Zbigniew Resiak, business development manager at Agresti, told WYMT news: "They have a need, we have a process, so it's a good fit.
Officials in the county had been planning on digging another landfill site to dispose of excess waste.
"The really great thing about this is we're capturing the pollution that would have gone to the landfill, and we're converting it into fuel or recyclable products," Mr Resiak added.
Construction of the plant is expected to start early next year after Agresti has acquired the relevant building permits.
