One of the partners in the one gigawatt (GW) London Array wind farm, has signed the largest offshore wind turbine supply agreement, it claims.
DONG Energy, which is working with E.On to develop the wind farm in the Thames Estuary, has signed an agreement with Siemens for up to 500 wind turbines.
In total the turbines it has signed for will have the capacity to generate 1.8GW of electricity.
While the number would easily satisfy the needs of the London Array, which will have up to 271 wind turbines, DONG has said that where these turbines are used will be determined by procedures and the particular set of economic circumstances in countries.
Anders Eldrup, chief executive officer of DONG Energy, said: "DONG Energy has built approximately half of all offshore wind farms in operation in the world today. Entering into the largest single offshore wind turbine supply agreement ever further strengthens DONG Energy's leading position in this field."
