Minister for environment and climate change Lord Hunt has paid a visit to the site where a new wave energy device is being constructed.
The minister visited the Lowestoft facilities of Trident energy to see the company's new 20 kilowatt rig, which it plans to install next year.
Trident's system uses direct energy conversion and has no hydraulic or pneumatic parts.
It consists of floats placed on the sea which rise and fall with the waves driving linear generators devices that convert straight-line mechanical motion directly into electricity.
Ahead of the minister's visit Trident founder and inventor Hugh-Peter Kelly told the Advertiser24: "Wave energy has been neglected. It is the hardest but most rewarding form of renewable energy. Forty percent of our entire national energy needs for electricity can come from harnessing wave power around the UK."
Lord Hunt helped the Energy Bill through the House of Lords, adding amendments welcomed by green campaigners.
