A 48 megawatt community-owned wind farm has been connected to the grid in East Lothian.
ScottishPower Energy Networks has completed the £7 million project to lay cables and install a new substation to connect the Aikengall Windfarm to the grid.
The 16 wind turbines, each rated at 3MW have been installed by Community Windpower, while the transmission operator lay 18 kilometres of cabling to connect the renewable energy generator.
Anthony Callan, project manager at ScottishPower, said: "Now that the project is complete there is a double benefit for the local area, as the renewable energy being produced by the wind farm is now being fed directly into the local grid and, to cope with this, we have installed new equipment which will strengthen the electricity network as a whole."
Meanwhile, a new 10MW onshore wind farm in the Port of Liverpool has been brought online.
The £15 million Peel Energy wind farm has fewer turbines than neighbouring wind farm in the Royal Seaforth docks but generates three times the power.
According to Peel Energy, this demonstrates the development in turbine technology, reports, New Energy Focus.
