Hollywood star Ed Begley Jr is calling on householders to make more of an effort to help protect the environment.
During an interview with the BBC, the actor attempted to demonstrate how achievable leading a low carbon and energy efficient life is.
His own home features a host of energy-efficient devices in addition to solar panels and extra wall cavity insulation.
The actor explained to the British broadcaster that he hoped to set an example and motivate others to become green.
"You have to make it seamless for people," he said. "You have to be able to say to people, look I'm still going to give you a cool beverage and a warm shower, I'm just going to do it more efficiently."
Begley advised that many energy-saving improvements can be made around the home without getting into debt.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, householders can reduce heating bills by up to ten per cent by turning down their thermostats by 1°C.
