Wales has outlined a new strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help communities and households out of fuel poverty.
The environment minister, Jane Davidson, launched the scheme at the Coed Cae Estate in Lauenau Gwent, where homes are being retrofitted in order to make them more energy efficient, while reducing energy bills and carbon dioxide emissions.
Three key objectives form the backbone of the strategy.
The environmental objective aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by three per cent per year in areas accountable to local authorities through reductions in the domestic sector.
In economic terms, the strategy intends to create green jobs and business opportunities.
On the social side, the scheme aims to reduce the impact of fuel poverty of households in Wales.
Ultimately, fuel poverty will be eradicated in all households in Wales "as far as is reasonably practicable" by 2018, the Welsh Assembly Government claimed.
Ms Davidson commented: "I accept this is an ambitious target but I see no reason to aim low. Making homes more energy efficient is just one of three factors that contribute to fuel poverty - and the Assembly Government cannot control people's income and global fuel prices.
"But we must aim to do all we can as far as is reasonably practicable to end fuel poverty."
