Honda announces solar fuel station prototype

Honda has announced the prototype release of its latest solar hydrogen fuelling station.

Designed to fit into a user's garage, the device converts water into hydrogen in order to charge a fuel cell electric vehicle.

According to Honda the charger takes eight hours to fill a car with enough energy to make the daily commute.

The system has been declared the most compact of its type in the world and also offers 25 per cent more efficiency when compared to the previous model it will replace.

Keeping sustainability in mind, the Solar Hydrogen Station, which is being tested in the car manufacturer's Los Angeles centre, is intended to make home refuelling with clean energy convenient.

Honda has been a market leader in alternative fuel developments for transport systems, and has even developed its own solar cells to charge electric vehicles which generate less carbon dioxide during energy production when compared to the traditional cells.
