"More education" needed on renewable technology

03 February 2010

Homeowners need "more education" regarding the installation of renewable technologies, according to the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC).

The director of the NHIC Andrew Leech said that widespread scepticism concerning climate change mean that the public needed more education and encouragement to make renewable technology commonplace in the home.

He commented that the way to increase awareness was for the government and pressure groups to "keep repeating the message and getting as much coverage as we possibly can in the newspapers".

Mr Leech added: "A continual bombardment of the public to tell them that there are big advantages in looking at renewable technologies [is needed]."

The call for more education on renewable energy comes after the government confirmed that its feed-in tariff scheme will come into operation on April 1st 2010.

Mr Leech believes that this is a stem in encouraging the public to "look more at improving their homes and putting renewable technologies in them".
