Green improvements 'add long term value'

31 October 2008

Celebrity property expert Phil Spencer has revealed that environmentally-friendly home improvements add long term value as well as cutting bills in the short term.

The presenter of Location, Location, Location and Relocation, Relocation said that although green issues were not at the forefront of media attention at the moment they would not go away.

He noted that making a home more energy efficient had "some immediate benefits on your household bills".

With energy costs soaring over the past year, exemplified by British Gas' 35 per cent price hike, green measures can help cut energy consumption and therefore bills.

But it is not just in the short term that these improvements benefit finances.

"Green improvements will add long-term value and they are increasingly popular," said Mr Spencer.

A survey carried out for Lloyds TSB has revealed that an energy efficient boiler is considered to be the energy efficiency improvement which most boosts the value of a property.
