Green homes 'not badly affected by property market'

28 April 2009

Homes equipped with energy saving products are in a better position to retain their value compared to others without such tools, GreenMoves has said.

Julian Brooks, managing director of the eco-home advice company, explained that there was still demand for green homes.

He added that his firm has witnesses a spike in enquiries in recent weeks, suggesting that people are increasingly interested in living in more environmentally-friendly dwellings.

"[Demand for eco-homes] is still there and is slightly insulated from the problems that conventional house builder products have, in terms of trying to get sales," Mr Brooks noted.

"It's holding up and there is still a desire or an interest in the market for products like that, that are different."

The comments follow last week's Budget, which revealed that local authorities across the UK would be given £100 million for sustainable housing programmes.

Alistair Darling, the chancellor of the exchequer, said that this funding was part of a total investment of £1.4 billion for the low carbon sector.
