A development that would save resident's bills has been rescued following the original developer facing financial difficulties.
The energy efficient buildings of the Bright Green Homes Schemes in Sheffield feature energy efficiency measures but were not completed before developer Environmental Trust was affected by the economic downturn.
However, Places for People, which has already built 300 new homes in the area has taken over and agreed to complete the houses to the environmental standards originally set.
Properties will feature solar panels, double glazing and insulation made from recycled rags and newspapers, all of which will reduce residents' energy consumption, fuel bills and carbon emissions.
Councillor Bob McCann, the council's cabinet member for housing and sustainable, safer communities said: "It will be great to see this scheme back on track and finally finished. Sheffield needs something like this. It also shows the Council is committed to taking advantage of Government cash to provide affordable housing."
According to the Committee on Climate Change, residential properties are responsible for 25 per cent of all UK carbon emissions, half of which come from burning fossil fuels primarily for heating.
