Residents of Bromley and Bexley have been reminded of a scheme to help them cut their energy bills and make their homes more energy efficient which was started by the former mayor.
London Assembly member Darren Johnson of the Green Party, wrote to the Bromley Times expressing his surprise that current mayor Boris Johnson had stopped promotion of the insulation scheme.
Financial difficulties and rising costs of energy as well as other essentials such as food are affecting residents of the borough and across the capital and Mr Johnson says the insulation scheme can help with energy bills.
He writes: "Under a Greater London Authority scheme I helped negotiate with the previous mayor (Ken Livingstone), residents can get cut-price insulation for lofts and cavity walls, and pensioners over 70 and people on benefits are entitled to free insulation."
"Given the hard times that people are going through this winter, I was shocked to discover recently that Boris Johnson has cancelled all promotion of the GLA insulation offer and even removed it from the GLA website until I challenged him on the issue last week."
The Energy Saving Trust recommends that loft insulation be laid 270 millimetres deep.
Insulation reduces heat loss, meaning it takes less fuel to keep a house warm.
