A housing charity has welcomed a pledge from Chancellor Alistair Darling to help households become more energy efficient.
In his pre-budget report, the chancellor announced £100 million to fund installing insulation, one of the most cost effective ways of making a home more energy efficient.
The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) welcomed the announcement which is part of a £535 million stimulus package for the low-carbon economy.
TCPA chief executive Gideon Amos said: "With escalating fuel bills this winter and the pressing need to improve our housing stock in the face of climate change the Government is right to introduce measures designed to improve the energy efficiency of our homes."
While he welcomed the announcement Mr Amos urged the government to remain committed to its housing and environmental goals.
The pre-budget report included an extension of incentives for renewable energy generation and also a four-tiered airline passenger duty, which will be highest for the longest journeys.
