A new affordable housing scheme in Huddersfield that places an emphasis on sustainability has won three awards, it has been reported.
The 79-home Primrose Hill development was voted Best Sustainable Development (West Yorkshire) in the Built Quality Awards and Best New Affordable Housing Scheme at the Housing Excellence Awards.
It has also won a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Award Commendation for Design and Innovation, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Green aspects of the £7 million site include renewable energy features such as solar panels to heat water and photovoltaic plates to generate power, as well as low-energy lighting.
Senior development project manager at Yorkshire Housing Jim Reed told the publication: "Primrose Hill has created a new and vibrant community in a previously depressed area of Huddersfield.
"Environmental issues and sustainability were the backbone to this project and have been reflected throughout the design," he added.
It was reported recently in the Yorkshire Evening Post that a development of carbon-negative housing is underway in Leeds.
