The UK government has announced a one-month countdown to the initiation of the CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) Energy Efficiency Scheme.
Large public and private sector organisations will all be required to take part, as of April 1st, in a bid to reduce the country's carbon emissions.
By cutting emissions, organisations will have the added benefit of saving on fuel bills.
Joan Ruddock, energy and climate change minister, commented: "There's just one month to go until the start of the CRC which will see large public and private sector organisations cutting emissions as well as saving money on fuel bills.
"This is a real opportunity for business and industry to take a leadership role in tackling climate change and gain reputational advantage as a result."
The scheme is mandatory, but participants could save a total of around £1 billion a year by 2020.
Over four million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions could also be saved each year, once the scheme is up and running by 2020.
