Households planning to make energy efficient changes around their properties can now do so thanks to a £3.5 billion investment.
The funding will go towards the extension of the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) scheme and the launch of the new Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP).
Homes will be able to access funding for energy efficient measures through these two initiatives, which have been made possible by several energy companies.
It is hoped that the programmes will help the UK to meet its carbon reduction targets as well as support households living in fuel poverty, which is defined as spending more than ten per cent of total income on heating.
Energy minister Joan Ruddock said: " Home energy efficiency has never been so important in achieving our long term goals on climate change and to making a real difference to householder's energy bills.
"Today's announcement delivers a major part of the prime minister's Home Energy Savings Programme that ensures people can save money and save energy, as well as reducing emissions."
The UK has a target of reducing total carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050.
