Developers of a series of new eco homes have claimed that energy bills will only cost residents £80 per year.
Saxon Weald has built the properties in Billingham, West Sussex, which will generate energy from solar panels and harvest rainwater for use in flushing toilets, 24dash.com reported.
The housing association has built the properties to meet level five of the government's sustainable housing code.
Other measures include ground source heat pumps, which will be used to provide hot water and heating, while any unused energy will be sold back to the national grid.
Marie Riordan, the scheme's project manager, told the news provider that the properties cost £160,000 to build to improve their sustainability standard.
She added that the energy-saving measures will help the residents only pay an estimated £83.44 on power each year.
Meanwhile Osborne is currently constructing a number of affordable green homes in Greenwich on behalf of Family Mosaic.
The new properties will also be built to meet level five of the government's code.
