Record numbers of consumers rang help lines for assistance in reducing their energy bills during the recent cold snap, according to figures released by the Scottish government today (Thursday January 28th).
During the recent cold snap, almost 7,000 people rang the government's assistance hotline.
Help has been offered to callers in the form of energy efficient heating systems and loft or cavity wall insulation.
Housing and communities minister Alex Neil commented: "These figures show the Scottish government's £60 million Energy Assistance Package is doing exactly what it should be doing."
Reducing energy bills in most cases means reducing the amount of energy a household needs to stay warm.
By doing this, carbon dioxide emissions and fossil fuel use is reduced while personal bills are cut.
Callers were also advised on how to reduce their bills by checking prices with different providers.
