Economy 'not stopping adoption of green IT'

12 May 2009

The tough economic climate is not preventing businesses from attempting to make their IT systems more environmentally friendly.

This is the opinion of Kyocera Mita, which claims that sustainability has not been "pushed off the agenda" for enterprises during the downturn.

However, the focus has changed and many are making the changes to green IT solutions for cost rather than environmental reasons.

According to Tracey Rawling Church, director of brand and reputation at Kyocera Mita, people are not realising that sustainable office IT can save them money.

Speaking at the Green IT 2009 Conference and Exhibition, she added that the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) "is coming on at us very quickly and will introduce some additional financial penalties for those that don't manage their energy consumption well".

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is introducing the CRC scheme in April and is a central part of the quest to reduce carbon emissions.
