New loan scheme 'may help Brits go green'
The announcement that further funding to the Green Homes Service will be granted as part of the 2008 budget has been met with approval by high street lender Abbey, it has emerged.
With recent research from the bank stating that more than 13 million Brits cited cost as the main reason they are reluctant to make energy-efficient improvements to their home, it claimed the new funding announcement may provide a greater incentive for people to go green.
It is thought the funding could include energy-saving methods such as installing insulation or a method of renewable electricity generation such as a solar panel.
According to energy saving website Down With CO2, installing adequate home insulation could save between one and 2.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year and may result in an annual cost saving of between £130 and £380.
Other energy-efficient improvements could include the installation of a solar hot water system or upgrading old appliances with more energy-efficient items.
