Eco gadgets 'can save the world and money'

23 May 2008

Investing in a variety of household gadgets can help save the environment and money, it has been posited.

A report in the Telegraph has shown that electricity display units allow consumers to see how much electricity is used by making a cup of tea or watching a television programme.

Integrated appliances, such as televisions with built-in digital receivers that use less energy are also useful to have when assessing the carbon footprint of the home.

Penelope Chapple, a spokesperson for Good Energy, told the publication that these measures are increasingly being adopted by homeowners.

"Over recent months we have seen a considerable rise in consumers wishing not only to switch to green electricity, but willing to take serious measures to reduce the impact of their homes," Ms Chapple commented.

She added that an interest in micro-technology and microgeneration has been generated by the recent rise in utility bills.

A Centrica representative recently told the Daily Mail that cheap and simple measures, such as upgrading heating controls and using individual thermostats to control domestic heating, are also good ways to keep track of energy use.
