Businesses looking to improve their carbon performance should look to the office equipment they use.
This is according to Kyocera Mita, which states that for the average enterprise, items such as printers account for 15 per cent of office energy use.
It is also likely that this figure will increase, which means that improving the way such equipment is utilised could result in "significant improvements" to a firm's carbon performance.
Discussing the matter at the Green IT Conference and Exhibition, Tracey Rawling Church, director of brand and reputation at Kyocera Mita, encouraged all businesses to comply with the Carbon Reduction Commitment.
"There actually isn't any downside to this legislation if you comply with it early and engage with it fully," she stated.
According to a survey of attendees to the 2008 Green IT Conference event, reducing the impact of energy consumption was considered to be the most important reason for switching to green IT for 53 per cent of respondents.
